Found yourself without a date for this Friday night, and none of your girls are free for a galentine's party?
Don't worry, it's happened to the best of us here at L&F magazine, and over the years we've figured out a few ways to send ourselves the ultimate signs of love that go beyond a 14 step nighttime skincare routine. So listen up, and take some notes, because we'll have you feeling all fuzzy inside for the rest of the week. Here it is.
The 5 Self- Love Languages
Sign up for a cooking class or some sort of craft class this weekend! Take a class you've always wanted to take, and then have fun with it. Think of it this way: you're doing yourself a service by broadening your horizons and experiencing something new or building a new skill. Who knows, you may come out of this weekend with a whole new hobby and a new circle of friends. Bonus points if it's something you can take home at the end of the night, like a gourmet meal, or a painting, or a well-arranged bouquet.
Now listen to me and follow these steps precisely: Buy yourself a bar of artisanal soap. I'm talking about the kind that has a vivid and truly beautiful scent, one which you know is only attainable through small batch production. Get yourself a new sponge or bath tool, and take a nice hot shower to wash the day away. Then get yourself a somewhat neutrally scented body butter or oil to lather on top and moisturize, because we always feel best when we are moisturized. This way you don't have too many competing scents going on. Then spritz on a perfume or scented body oil that works with the soap's scent family, and you're in for a night of feeling cute and cozy. Follow it up with your cutest pajamas or nightgown, and you've got a great night.
Every girl loves jewelry. I'm convinced that this is a fact. Buy yourself something pretty. Use this Friday night to go out shopping, and if you're feeling particularly bothered by the extra money in your handbag, go to the jewelry store. Trust me, jewelers love it when you mention that it's a gift you're giving to yourself (the return risk is much lower, and you're more likely to get creative with the design). Take it up a notch and get something other than a diamond. Try out some semi-precious stones, like amethysts or aquamarines. Those will be sure to get compliments wherever you go.
Call up someone you miss. Your mom, your sister, or your long-distance friend. All are great options. Call up someone you know you're going to be on the phone with for almost an hour, just chatting about random things or whatever is going on in your lives. Someone who always has you getting off the phone feeling lighter than when you first dialed their number. A big part of loving yourself is keeping the relationships that feed your soul, strong and healthy. That takes communication, and by keeping in touch with the people you love, you are also loving yourself.
Spend some time getting to know yourself this weekend! You know what you need to do? You need to take yourself out to that really nice restaurant you've been meaning to check out. And go alone. Ask the maitre d' to give you a prime people watching seat, and then order a glass of wine. Ask the waiter what he recommends. You never know, it might turn into a conversation, and you might learn something new or discover a new wine you'll continue to explore well into the summer.
If you're feeling a little too awkward about sitting alone in a restaurant on Valentine's day, don't sweat it, just go the day after or maybe right after work before the crowds really start to come in. Bon appetit, babes!
There you have it, friends. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you, and I hope you have a fun night!
