Hey friends,
I'm back, and it's finally that time of the year again! I'm ready for some bright foliage, cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and the long-awaited social season.
But what really makes the essence of Autumn so different from the other seasons? I'll tell you—it’s moody. Now hear me out. We experience Autumn through our senses, and time seems to slow down as the nights get longer and darker, right? So, what else is there to do but gaze out your window and make yourself a little moody? I do it all the time just for fun (please don't blame me for having a lot of Cancer placements in my chart, it can't be helped).
You should try it too, and you know, I find that because we spend a lot more time getting cozy at home during the Autumn season, your lingerie and sleepwear plays a surprisingly important role in setting the vibe for how you want your Autumn to be. That is why, especially during this season in particular, choosing and wearing your lingerie and sleepwear strategically is one of the best methods for having the coziest, moodiest, and most romantic Autumn you've ever had. So, here are some tips for how to set the perfect tone this season using your lingerie.
Is it a dark and rainy Fall day or a crisp, sparkling one? Are you choosing your lingerie for the day or for the evening? Where are you going? The coffee shop to read your book for a while or out for drinks and dinner with friends? Ask yourself all of these questions, and then pick out your lingerie accordingly.
One thing I like to do is, for the days that I know I am spending mostly by myself, or if I wake up that morning and am in a solitary kind of mood, I choose the warmer colors to wear. I'll put on beige lingerie, or a warm brown toned lingerie, or even a nude lingerie. Natural, earthy colors work best. On those days, or nights for that matter, I like to keep things very soft, very feminine, and a little delicate. The details added to the lingerie, should be kept very small: a few tiny bows, a small ruffle at the bottom of your bra. I also like to keep the construction of the lingerie as simple and thin as possible: uncomplicated bralettes are a go-to for wearing under thick sweaters. Remember not to overwhelm your upper body with complicated bras underneath complicated thick sweaters—it’s just not a look, and it's definitely not comfortable. A comfy matching french knicker or brief is perfect for these kinds of days. Elegant and effortless is what we are going for.
Going out during the Autumn is a whole other story. For those days or nights I like lingerie sets that are particularly edgy and dark—not necessarily in a seductive kind of way, but rather in an intense kind of way. The goal here is to mirror the darkness and intensity that is so essential to the Autumn feeling. Slightly Halloween-y without being too Halloween-y if you get what I'm saying. In this case, I'm going for sheer black lingerie or some sort of maroon or a deep, deep red. If you really want to get festive though, a neon green or a deep purple would work too. Interesting prints are always welcome. Think of colors and prints that are intense, dark, or elicit some sort of immediate reaction. Lots of straps are great, hooks and hardware are a must, and that black patent leather bodysuit that you were waiting to wear...will look absolutely fabulous.
So, remember how we seem to have this whole light and dark thing going on when it comes to choosing your lingerie for the day? Well, this also extends to the textures as well, and textures will be especially important here.
On those solitary days when I'm going for a soft, earthy, feminine mood, I'm usually reaching for the more natural materials like silk, or even a good quality, thick cotton if it is in the warm tones I mentioned before. You might ask, "Aren't we keeping it cozy? What about velvet?" Well, I usually like to save velvet for the winter because it can be a little too cozy for this transitional season, and it will shine a lot brighter when used for the winter and worn in jewel tones as opposed to the warm earthy tones we want for this season. Think of materials that you can actually envision being harvested and woven by hand. Invest in your own comfort this season and try to get the best quality lingerie you can afford. Materials like silk and cotton are super breathable for those hot Autumn days, and soothingly warm for when those days turn into chilly nights.
For going out and being sociable, even if it's just a bonfire or a hayride, mesh is a great fit. With mesh, we are able to keep that intensity that we were talking about with its ability to be intricately constructed, and it looks great with exposed hardware like metal hooks or adjusters. Sheer black mesh lingerie comes immediately to mind. I don't know, something about mesh just hints at what you might be getting up to later that night. Are you going to rob a bank in that lingerie? Or are you just meeting up with one of your top picks for the cuffing season draft? No one will ever know.
So now after all of that choosing, you've found something to wear. What's the next step? Relaxing. Take a hot shower or a bubble bath with your favorite pumpkin spice soaps and scrubs. Add a bath bomb or a bath soak with harvest scents. Then turn down your lights and light the Fall candles for a romantic flicker and a soft, delicious scent. Doesn't matter if you're with someone or by yourself, this is definitely on my list of the top ten ways to slow down and romanticize your life. When you get out, moisturize with your favorite pumpkin spice body lotions and butters, and finish off with a spritz of perfume, anything gourmand. Not a fan of pumpkin spice? Go with vanilla or brown sugar, or any kind of scent that sounds like a baking ingredient, honestly. Only then are you ready to put on your lingerie. And remember, friends: Lingerie is not just a type of clothing, but a state of mind.
Now, you're ready to go on with your day... or night. For my friends going out for the night, show off your lingerie and incorporate it into your edgy outfit, you'll get tons of compliments. For my friends just going to the coffee shop to read a book while wearing a cozy sweater, shift your sweater a little off the shoulder for a bit of flirtiness and a peek at your pretty bra. It's a cute and cozy look, trust me. And for those friends like me, staying home in their apartments, do the same but with your robe. Slip into your lingerie after your bath and don your robe, carelessly draped to perfection, then cook your dinner while sipping anything out of a wine glass. Very elegant lady-ish. It's a vibe, I promise.
All I have to say now is that your Autumn is gonna be on another level entirely.
Lots of love,
Raine
